About Our Area
Mint Cottage is in the heart of Kirkcudbright, just off its famous historic Old High Street. Kirkcudbright is an attractive and bustling small town with a busy harbour - home to a fleet of scallop boats, a selection of small mainly family run shops where most things can be bought, and surrounded by beautiful farming and coastal countryside. Our section of the north Solway Coast in the South West of Scotland, has many attractive little coves and inlets offering safe bathing and sheltered dingy sailing.

You'll find us in the south western corner of Scotland. It's an easy drive from most cities in the north of England and central Scotland. And if you are coming from further afield the region is well placed within the motorway and Irish Sea ferry network. We are only 5 miles off the A75 Carlisle to Stranraer road - and we are well signposted no matter which direction you arrive from.

Leading coach operators offer fast, frequent connections from most parts of Britain. If you prefer to travel by train - from England get on to the West Coast line (heading for Glasgow) and that will deliver you direct to Dumfries. If you are coming from Scotland, get yourself on a south-bound train and head for Dumfries. A frequent local bus service travels to and from Dumfries (26 miles).

The Harbour Cottage Gallery - Displays of local art for sale.
The Tolbooth Art Centre

An Artist's Colony. The town of Kirkcudbright is know as an artist's colony which has flourished from the late 19th century and many of the High Street houses were occupied by famous Scottish Colourists, the story of which is told in the nearby Tolbooth Art Centre where their work can also be seen. The Harbour Cottage Gallery is open nearly all year round and is a very popular venue where contemporary local artists' work can be bought.
